On 30 July 2026 a head‑on collision between two vans on the provincial road SP4 near Enna killed a woman and a man and injured several occupants. Firefighters from the Piazza Armerina station, Carabinieri and emergency medical crews rescued victims, extracted them from the wreckage and transported the injured to Umberto I Hospital in Enna. The following night, 31 July 2026, a violent crash involving two motorcycles on State Road 113 near the San Leonardo bridge, between Termini Imerese and Trabia, killed 14‑year‑old Alessandra Martorana, who was a passenger on an electric scooter, while the 42‑year‑old rider suffered serious injuries. Ambulances, Carabinieri and police secured the scene; the mayor of Termini Imerese declared a day of municipal mourning, postponed the Night‑White event and scheduled Alessandra’s funeral for 1 August.
