Sigma FP2 camera release and new lens announcement
Following rumors of an upcoming announcement, Sigma officially unveiled the FP2, the second generation of its ultra-compact full-frame mirrorless hybrid camera series. The FP2 features a 24.5-megapixel partially stacked CMOS sensor designed to reduce rolling shutter distortion and allow for a minimum shutter speed of 1/25,600 second. The camera introduces phase-detection autofocus (PDAF) for recognizing humans, animals, and birds, and supports continuous shooting at up to 20 fps. For video, the device offers 6K Open Gate recording, 32-bit float audio support, and various formats including ProRes RAW HQ and L-Log. The hardware includes a weather-sealed metal body, a new tilting LCD screen, and a larger 2,200 mAh battery. The camera is priced at 2,199 Euro. Alongside the camera, Sigma announced the Sigma 50mm F1.4 CL DG | Contemporary lens, which marks the start of a new CL lens line within the I-series. This lens utilizes a Rotary Direct Drive (RDD) autofocus mechanism to maintain a compact 54mm length. While the FP2 is scheduled for release on November 11, 2026, the 50mm lens is expected to arrive in early spring 2027.
