Sikkim FY27 budget rollout

Entities: Comptroller and Auditor General of India · Government of Sikkim · Passang Sherpa · Sikkim · Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)

Overview

In July 2026 the Eleventh Sikkim Legislative Assembly began a four‑day session to present the state’s FY27 budget. Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang, also holding the finance portfolio, delivered the General Budget and outlined a slate of legislative bills covering medical council regulation, private university amendments, and new education and skill‑development boards.

A week later, the Comptroller and Auditor General’s figures showed a widening fiscal deficit for 2024‑25, with public debt slightly above the legal ceiling. The FY27 budget was detailed as Rs 18,455 crore, allocating funds to capital projects, revenue spending, road upgrades, farmer interest subvention, an assisted reproductive technology centre, and housing under the Sikkim Garib Awas Yojana. The state BJP welcomed the budget but called for stronger revenue generation, reduced borrowing, and expanded employment programmes.
