Italian swimmer Simona Quadarella secured her fourth consecutive European title in the women’s 800m freestyle at the European Aquatics Championships in Paris. Quadarella recorded a time of 8’15″54, narrowly missing the championship record by one hundredth of a second. In the competition, Germany’s Isabel Gose earned the silver medal and Maya Werner took the bronze. Quadarella’s victory brought her total European gold medal count to nine, placing her among the most decorated athletes in the history of the competition. Following her success in the 800m freestyle, Quadarella is now targeting a second title in the 1500m freestyle final. Other Italian athletes at the Centre Aquatique Olympique include Thomas Ceccon, who is scheduled for the 50m backstroke final, and reigning world champion Simone Cerasuolo, who is favored in the 50m breaststroke.
