Mexican security forces have apprehended two individuals linked to the Sinaloa Cartel in separate operations. In Mérida, authorities re-arrested José Marcelino “N”, also known as “El Marce”, a member of the “Los Chapitos” faction. The arrest followed an October 2 assassination attempt in which gunmen attacked him in front of his home. He is linked to drug trafficking, illegal weapons possession, and the April 2023 murders of four people in Cancún’s hotel zone. In Zapopan, federal forces including the Navy and National Guard arrested Arturo Enrique Guillén García, known as “El Nenuco” or “Kike”. Identified as a suspected Sinaloa Cartel operator with alleged ties to the Jalisco New Generation Cartel (CJNG), Guillén García was wanted for aggravated homicide in Baja California. Investigations connect him to the May 2023 killings of former Tijuana Mayor Librado Álvarez Vizcaíno and an attack on a bodyguard for former Mayor Montserrat Caballero. He has also been associated with threatening messages sent to musicians in the region. The operation against Guillén García took place at a private medical facility, resulting in the seizure of two long firearms, two magazines, ammunition, and three vehicles. He faces additional charges including criminal association, human trafficking, and crimes committed against state police officers, alongside his alleged role as an independent human smuggling operator.
