The X2 roller coaster at Six Flags Magic Mountain in Valencia, California, remains under scrutiny following a series of severe neurological injuries. Following July 2026 incidents involving 40-year-old Pamela Guillén, who suffered brain compression, and 25-year-old Naomi Greer-Wilkinson, who remains in a coma, Cal/OSHA opened an inspection into the attraction. Neurosurgeons have attributed such injuries to “traumatic rapid acceleration-deceleration events” caused by the ride’s 4th-dimensional design. Internal records reportedly indicate that Six Flags logged more than 70 head and neck injury complaints in the three years preceding the 2022 death of Christopher Hawley. This fatality led to a wrongful death lawsuit alleging a defective design caused a catastrophic subdural hematoma; the family of Hawley recently reached a settlement with Six Flags and a train supplier. Legal challenges intensified through late 2026. Attorney Michael Wilk filed a lawsuit alleging he sustained a catastrophic brain injury during a February ride, claiming he can no longer practice law due to memory loss and personality changes. In September 2026, the Dordick Law Corporation filed three new lawsuits against Six Flags Entertainment Corporation, Six Flags Magic Mountain, and manufacturer S&S Worldwide, claiming to represent more than 100 individuals who reported brain damage. By late September 2026, Six Flags Magic Mountain announced the permanent retirement of the X2 roller coaster. While the park president noted the ride had passed numerous safety tests, the closure was intended to address concerns regarding guest trust, stating that “ride safety is a cornerstone of our business, and when we see guest confidence affected, we take it seriously.” Legal representatives have noted the scale of the issue, with one firm stating approximately 400 people have approached them regarding injuries.
