Slovak Interior Minister Matúš Šutaj Eštok is facing scrutiny following allegations regarding a trip to Dubai. Investigative reports linked the accounting of a firm owned by the minister’s partner, Anne Benejová, to a network connected to oligarch Jozef Brhel. Benejová confirmed paying approximately €12,500 in cash for airline tickets, a transaction that has led anti-corruption groups and former police officials to allege the possible laundering of illicit funds. As the investigation progressed, the Stop Corruption Foundation raised concerns regarding the impartiality of the police investigator, Mikuláš Marton. The foundation noted a potential conflict of interest after Marton’s wife was appointed to the supervisory board of the state-owned energy company Energetika Slovensko without a selection process. This appointment was made by the Ministry of Economy, which is controlled by the Hlas-SD party. While the Ministry of Interior defended the legality of the investigation, opposition members have demanded transparency regarding the appointment. In response to the ongoing controversy, the SLOVENSKO movement has demanded transparency regarding the appointment and threatened to collect signatures to dismiss both Minister Šutaj Eštok and Minister Denisa Saková.
