Following the October 24, 2026, elections, results revealed significant leadership shifts in several major municipalities alongside continuity in regional leadership. In Bratislava, incumbent Matúš Vallo successfully defended his mayoral seat with 64% of the vote, defeating the government-backed candidate Jozef Ráž. In the surrounding Bratislava region, liberal governor Juraj Droba retained his position with 71% of the vote. At the regional level, all eight governors were re-elected. The governing coalition led by Prime Minister Robert Fico retained two governorships, while liberal and conservative opposition parties secured four. Independent candidates not aligned with major political blocs retained leadership in two regions. Specific re-elections included Branislav Becík in the Nitra region, Milan Majerský in Prešov, Rastislav Trnka in Košice, and Jozef Viskupič in Trnava. Other municipal changes included Marek Hovaňák winning in Kežmarok, Jozef Králik unseating Anton Dank in Poprad, and Dávid Demečko becoming mayor of Spišská Nová Ves. Michal Uherčík also won in Martin. In Košice, Ladislav Lörinc of the Košická strana won the mayoral seat with 27,364 votes, defeating incumbent Jaroslav Polaček. In Trenčín, former vice-mayor Ján Forgáč was elected mayor with over 69 percent of the vote, ending a 16-year tenure by Richard Rybníček. Námestovo saw a narrow victory as Tibor Tomovčík defeated Ľubomír Jaššo by only two votes. Additionally, Ján Beljak won the mayoralty of Zvolen. In Holíč, Boris Bízek won the mayoralty, ending a 20-year tenure by Zdenko Čambal. While the ruling Smer party and its allies maintained several posts, they faced setbacks in major cities. The Hlas-SD party claimed to be the most successful political entity regarding the total number of mayors and village heads elected. Turnout was reported at approximately 46% to 48%. Unofficial results suggest the outcome provides a period of political stability ahead of the 2027 parliamentary elections.
