Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico introduced ‘Vision Slovakia 2040’, a long-term strategic document developed by approximately 350 experts. The document was designed to address trends such as climate change, demographic shifts, and potential large-scale warfare in Europe, serving as a foundation for future strategy. While the government maintained it did not interfere with the experts' work, observers noted the inclusion of contributors with ties to the political opposition. Following its introduction, the Slovak government approved the document, titled ‘Vision Slovakia 2040: A Path to a Better Life’. Developed with approximately 400 experts, the finalized vision identifies six primary areas for transformation: state functionality, economic transformation through science and innovation, education and artificial intelligence preparation, demographic trends, healthcare, and social cohesion. The roadmap also emphasizes preparedness for physical, cyber, energy, food, and climate threats. As a conceptual framework for the upcoming ‘Slovakia 2040 Development Strategy’, the approved roadmap aims to guide the country’s development over the next 14 years. Key objectives include state reform to stabilize public finances and addressing critical challenges such as declining birth rates and energy security.
