Slovenia has authorized the use of Tesla’s Full Self-Driving (FSD) Supervised advanced driver-assistance system. The Slovenian Agency for Traffic Safety (AVP) granted a temporary type approval by recognizing a decision previously issued by the Dutch vehicle authority, RDW, under EU Regulation 2018/858. This decision makes Slovenia the sixth EU member state to permit the technology, joining the Netherlands, Lithuania, Estonia, Denmark, and Belgium. While the system can perform tasks such as lane changes and navigation, it is not fully autonomous and requires active driver supervision. The operator remains legally responsible for the vehicle and must keep their eyes on the road. In Slovenia, the FSD subscription is priced at 99 euros per month, with a two-month free trial offered to certain Model 3 and Model Y owners. A broader EU-level vote regarding the approval of the system is tentatively planned for October 2026. For widespread adoption across the union, the technology requires support from at least 15 of the 27 member states, representing 65 percent of the EU population. Following the regulatory approval for Tesla’s supervised system, Slovenia’s Minister of Infrastructure and Energy, Jernej Vrtovec, announced that the government is preparing legislative changes to enable the introduction of autonomous robot taxis. The proposed rollout could include cities such as Ljubljana, Maribor, Celje, and Gorica. While Tesla plans to introduce its functionality via wireless software updates, the minister emphasized that the current system is not fully autonomous and the driver remains entirely responsible for safety.
