Slovenian athletes have achieved significant success in recent athletics competitions. Kristjan Čeh and Zala Istenič were named the overall winners of the 2026 Telekom Slovenia International Athletics League, with Čeh earning 40 points and Istenič earning 32 points. Following this domestic success, Kristjan Čeh secured the European discus title at the championships in Birmingham. He set a new championship record with a throw of 72.51 meters, marking his third career gold medal. Additionally, Živa Remic won gold in the 800-meter discipline at the World Junior Championships in Eugene. Čeh continued his momentum by winning the Diamond League overall title after a victory in the series final in Brussels. During that event, he achieved a meet record with a throw of 71.29 meters, finishing ahead of world record holder Mykolas Alekna. This performance marked Čeh’s second Diamond League overall title, his first since 2022. Most recently, Čeh won the discus throw at an athletics meeting in Zagreb with a distance of 70.46 meters. While he achieved his goal of exceeding 70 meters, he noted a “lack of energy” and a lack of intense competition and spectators compared to larger meets. Other Slovenian athletes also saw success in Zagreb, including Matic Tršelič Buble, who won the pole vault at 4.60 m, and Klemen Modrijančić, who finished second in the long jump. Čeh intends to conclude his season in Lithuania, where he aims to repeat a 70-meter throw against high-level competition, including Mykolas Alekna and Roje Stona.
