Slovenian road infrastructure developments

Overview

In Slovenia, legislative and administrative actions are addressing various road infrastructure issues. Member of Parliament Meira Hot has proposed reclassifying the Škofija-Koper and Koper-Izola road sections as expressways. The initiative aims to restore their previous status while ensuring passenger vehicles can still use the routes for free, arguing that the physical design of the four-lane connection remains unchanged.

Separately, the Ministry of the Environment and Spatial Planning is re-evaluating a building permit application for the highway section between Novo mesto vzhod and Osredek. This process follows an Administrative Court ruling that annulled a previous decision after a lawsuit by the 3ROS-jug civil initiative. The Motorway Company in the Republic of Slovenia (DARS) has supplemented documentation and obtained new expert opinions. Construction timelines remain uncertain pending the issuance of a legally binding permit.
