Small island nations are intensifying calls for global climate action and systemic financial reform as environmental changes threaten their survival. Regional impacts remain severe. In Palau, President Surangel Samuel Whipps Jr. reported that rising seas have caused two-thirds of Helen Island to disappear, including generational burial grounds. In St. Kitts and Nevis, Acting Prime Minister Dr. Geoffrey Hanley warned that the federation cannot adapt indefinitely to a deepening crisis, noting that rising seas pose threats to national sovereignty, statehood, and maritime rights.

While these nations were instrumental in securing the 1.5°C warming limit during the 2015 Paris climate pact, scientists and the United Nations warn that this threshold may be surpassed within the next one to two years. Experts suggest that preventing permanent damage will require reducing the use of coal, oil, and gas to zero in the coming decades.
