The municipal government of São José de Ribamar initiated an investigation into suspected irregularities regarding a public contest for the municipal education sector, which was organized by the Instituto Social da Cidadania Juscelino Kubitschek. Initially, the administration established a monitoring commission to request information from the organizing body and seek clarification from the Public Prosecutor’s Office. Following legal action by the Maranhão Public Prosecutor’s Office (MPMA), a court Judge Douglas de Melo Martins of the Vara de Interesses Difusos e Coletivos ordered the temporary suspension of three specific exam processes (notices nº 001/2026, nº 002/2026, and nº 003/2026). Reported irregularities include unsealed answer sheets with printed markings, discrepancies in the number of exam booklets, failures in metal detector inspections, and candidates leaving with exam materials. The judicial order halts all subsequent stages, such as physical aptitude tests tests, title evaluations, and appointments, to preserve physical and digital evidence while investigations continue. Further investigation has highlighted atypical statistical patterns, including a high concentration of successful candidates from the neighboring municipality of Itapecuru-Mirim, notably including an ex-vice-mayor who achieved a perfect score. Additionally, a technical report from the organizing institute noted disproportionately high scores and instances of identical answer sheets among candidates competing for the same positions. The suspension remains a preventive measure and is not a permanent cancellation; it will stay in effect until legal proceedings are concluded.
