São Paulo Etec technical education performance and expansion

Overview

Students from the State Technical Schools (Etecs) in São Paulo demonstrated high academic performance in the 2024 PISA for Schools assessments. Results showed that Etec students outperformed OECD averages in Reading, Mathematics, and Science. In Reading, students scored 493 points, surpassing both the OECD average of 461 and the Brazilian average of 408. Vahan Agopyan, the Secretary of Science, Technology, and Innovation for the State of São Paulo, attributed the state’s historical high scores in Science to the strength of technical education.

Following these academic results, Etecs opened applications for the first semester of 2027, offering more than 89,000 vacancies across 229 units. The selection process includes various programs such as High School, Technical, Integrated, and Technical Specialization courses covering over 200 different areas.
