Santos defeated São Paulo 2-1 in a delayed 21st-round Campeonato Brasileiro match at the MorumBIS stadium. Luciano opened the scoring for São Paulo via a penalty in the 34th minute, but Gabigol equalized with a header just two minutes later. The match featured the official debut of Philippe Coutinho for Santos, who provided the assist for Gabigol’s second goal to secure the comeback. The victory marks Santos’ fifth consecutive win in the national league, moving them to 7th place with 41 points and strengthening their bid for a Copa Libertadores spot. Meanwhile, São Paulo remains in 11th with 36 points. The defeat has reportedly increased pressure on São Paulo manager Dorival Júnior regarding tactical decisions and squad management. Beyond the gameplay, the fixture highlighted industry tensions regarding a Brazilian provisional measure prohibiting sports betting companies. Pitch-side advertising boards displayed messages such as ‘Proibir não é proteger’ (Prohibiting is not protecting) and ‘The prohibition does not end betting.’ Santos and other Série A teams are reportedly seeking extensions on financial penalties related to new Fair Play regulations, citing revenue losses from recent government restrictions on sports betting. São Paulo is among several clubs seeking judicial intervention via the Supreme Federal Court to challenge the measure. Administratively, São Paulo continues to face challenges following a FIFA transfer ban regarding debts related to player Giuliano Galoppo. The match also raised medical concerns for São Paulo, as Luciano suffered an adductor injury, while goalkeeper Rafael and midfielder Danielzinho also required medical assessments following the game.
