The government of São Paulo has undertaken several administrative actions regarding its police forces. In late September 2026, a decree issued by the state government resulted in the promotion of 11,230 civil and scientific police officers. This move, enabled by legislation sanctioned by Governor Tarcísio de Freitas, provided automatic promotions and salary increases for over 40% of the workforce. However, the process faced scrutiny after reports surfaced that the list included officers currently under investigation or imprisoned for serious crimes, such as jailer Milton Massaru Nakayama. The Secretariat of Public Security indicated it was verifying the status of these individuals. Following these promotions, the state announced a new public examination to recruit 200 Military Police cadets. Managed by the Military Police, the selection process will involve objective and essay exams, physical fitness tests, health examinations, psychological evaluations, and social conduct analysis. Successful candidates are expected to join the force in January 2028 after completing training at the Barro Branco Military Police Academy. Academy, where they will receive a dual degree in Law and Police Sciences for Security and Public Order. This recruitment effort complements other ongoing selection processes for soldiers and various lieutenant roles within the corporation.
