The São Paulo Civil Police have conducted separate major operations targeting different criminal activities. In mid-October, authorities executed ‘Operation Disque 151’, arresting three individuals for operating illegal digital gambling and task-based fraud platforms. This investigation, which spanned two years, identified schemes such as ‘FortuneSlots’ and ‘ThinkTV’ that allegedly affected 10 million people. The judiciary authorized asset freezes potentially reaching R$ 154 million. By late October, police launched the third phase of ‘Operação Ouro Reverso’ (Operation Reverse Gold), targeting a criminal organization involved in the theft, receipt, and laundering of money through the illegal jewelry and gold trade. Coordinated by the State Department of Criminal Investigations (Deic), the operation involved 31 search and seizure warrants warrants, the seizure of a property, and the temporary closure of a jewelry store in downtown São Paulo. Authorities froze approximately R$ 374 million in assets. Investigators identified Denis Alves Campos dos Santos, an alleged member of the Primeiro Comando da Capital (PCC) criminal organization, as a central figure. He is accused of facilitating the link between stolen jewelry and the group’s financial core. The investigation, which gained momentum in 2024 following reports regarding a high-value necklace gifted to footballer Neymar, revealed a sophisticated structure using shell companies and straw men to move large sums of money, with one investigated company reportedly moving more than R$ 350 million. This latest phase specifically identifies companies such as Canaã Comércio de Joias e Alianças Ltda and Efraim Comércio de Joias e Alianças Ltda as part of the laundering network.
