Mexican states Coahuila and Tamaulipas have initiated various measures to promote social equality and inclusion. In Coahuila, the Secretariat of Inclusion and Social Development partnered with the State Council of Science and Technology to develop projects aimed at fostering an inclusive society. In Tamaulipas, efforts to protect rights and ensure equality have intensified. Following sessions by the Substantive Equality Commission to improve conditions for children and adolescents, the state government moved to address gender-based violence. The Tamaulipas State Congress approved the creation of the Secretaría de las Mujeres (Ministry of Women). This new agency, proposed by Governor Américo Villarreal Anaya, replaces the existing Instituto de las Mujeres to centralize policies regarding gender equality, economic autonomy, and access to justice in response to public outcry over recorded feminicides. To further restructure the state administration, the Tamaulipas State Congress approved the creation of two new secretariats: the Secretaría de las Mujeres and the Secretaría de Innovación e Inteligencia Digital. These entities were formed by elevating the existing Instituto de las Mujeres and the Agencia de Innovación e Inteligencia Digital to cabinet-level status. Governor Américo Villarreal Anaya stated that the restructuring aims to align the state's administrative framework with the federal government to increase operational capacity. He clarified that the change is primarily a change in designation and will not have a budgetary impact, as existing personnel and resources will be transferred. While the Secretaría de las Mujeres will focus on promoting substantive equality and addressing violence against women, the Secretaría de Innovación e Inteligencia Digital will oversee digital government policies, cybersecurity, and artificial intelligence.
