Solomon Islands business finance accessibility

Efforts to improve financial access for businesses in the Solomon Islands have progressed through both government initiatives and international support.

In late August 2026, the Solomon Islands Government and the Central Bank of Solomon Islands (CBSI) relaunched the Small and Medium Enterprises Credit Guarantee Scheme (SMECGS). The program, which had been suspended in January 2025 due to funding limits, is designed to help micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) secure loans by having the government share lending risks with financial institutions. Officials noted the scheme aims to address previous gaps in uptake among youth- and women-owned enterprises.

Following this, Australia provided targeted support to the Solomon Islands construction sector through an ‘Access to Finance’ workshop in Honiara. The workshop connected local contractors with banks and business support organizations to provide guidance on cash flow management, financial record-keeping, and meeting lender requirements. Australian High Commissioner Jeff Roach stated that improving access to capital is essential for local contractors to advance the country’s infrastructure delivery.
