Soneium, an Ethereum Layer 2 blockchain developed by Sony Group and Startale Group, is expanding its ecosystem through the tokenization of intellectual property (IP). The initiative began with a partnership between Soneium and South Korean entertainment company DayOneDream to tokenize K-pop revenue. Using the WAVIST platform, this collaboration allows users to gain exposure to revenue from concerts, streaming, and music rights for artists such as BTOB and Lee Chae Yeon. Building on these developments, Soneium announced plans to issue a native ecosystem token, ~~‘SONEIUM’,~~ ‘$SONEIUM’, and launch specific ‘IP tokens’ tied to individual characters or works. The first such project, ‘Moriusa’, will be developed with SUPER STATE HOLDINGS. To facilitate these efforts, the project is promoting ‘ERC-8432’, a proposed Ethereum standard for on-chain IP asset and license registries, and has introduced the ‘Soneium Portal’ to connect creators, investors, and fans. The network is transitioning toward an ‘onchain entertainment economy’ through a framework called ‘Tokenized IP’. This framework aims to allow creators to fund new works via community support and enable automated royalty distribution through smart contracts. The project has introduced a three-layer Onchain IP Architecture consisting of an IP Registry to record ownership, an IP Graph to map relationships between works, and an execution layer. Through the Soneium Portal, users can access products such as the IP Vault for royalty-backed assets and IP Bonds. The ecosystem currently hosts over 250 applications across music, gaming, anime, and film. While the ~~‘SONEIUM’~~ ‘$SONEIUM’ token is in the planning stages, specific details regarding its supply, distribution model, and timing have not yet been disclosed.
