Sony Pictures has officially confirmed that Alan Ritchson will star in the live-action film adaptation of the video game ‘Helldivers’. Ritchson will portray one of the titular soldiers in a story centered on an elite unit fighting alien threats to protect the fictional planet Super Earth. Directed by Justin Lin, the project is a production of Sony Pictures and PlayStation Productions, involving Hutch Parker, Asad Qizilbash, and Lin’s Perfect Storm Entertainment. The casting of Ritchson follows the departure of Jason Momoa from the project earlier in the summer for undisclosed reasons. The announcement has met with mixed reactions from fans concerning the appointment of Lin, noting that he is not a gamer. The film’s theatrical release has been rescheduled from November 11, 2027, to June 9, 2028. This delay is intended to provide sufficient production time to recreate the tactical combat and science fiction scale of the original cooperative action franchise developed by Arrowhead Game Studios. The screenplay is currently being finalized by Gary Dauberman.
