A hardware revision for the PlayStation 5 Slim has been identified through a teardown of the Marvel’s Wolverine Limited Edition bundle. The update features a new motherboard, designated as EDM-051, which introduces several internal modifications. Technical changes include a redesigned cooling system that utilizes a liquid-metal interface and a modified heatsink. This new design incorporates an improved barrier around the processor to better contain the liquid metal, a design approach similar to the PS5 Pro, which may enhance manufacturing consistency and long-term reliability. While these changes do not affect graphical performance, they aim to improve thermal management. Additionally, the revision simplifies maintenance by making the CR2032 CMOS battery more accessible for replacement. Other modifications include an optimized HDMI component layout and a lower-cost HDMI retimer to ensure signal stability. Sony has not officially announced these hardware updates.
