South African Police Service recruitment drive

Overview

The South African Police Service (SAPS) launched a nationwide recruitment drive for 5,500 entry-level trainee positions for the 2026 and 2027 financial years. The initiative, which opened for applications on 21 October 2026, targets eligible candidates between the ages of 18 and 35 with no criminal records.

Following the launch, the service reported an overwhelming response, recording 156,131 profile registrations within less than 24 hours. Of these, 78,473 individuals completed profile verification, 53,716 initiated applications, and 29,013 successfully submitted them. Due to high traffic volumes on the eRecruitment portal, SAPS has advised applicants to remain patient. The application window is scheduled to remain open until 13 November 2026.
