Argentina, Uruguay, Chile, and Brazil have officially submitted a joint technical bid to World Rugby to host the 2035 Men’s Rugby World Cup. Led by the Argentine Rugby Union (UAR), the proposal seeks to bring the tournament to South America for the first time. The bid outlines a plan to utilize 11 stadiums across 10 cities. Argentina would host eight venues, including the Monumental and José Amalfitani in Buenos Aires, the Estadio Único Diego Armando Maradona in La Plata, and the Mario Alberto Kempes in Córdoba. Other proposed Argentine sites include stadiums in Santiago del Estero, Salta, Mendoza, and Rosario. The regional plan also includes the Maracanã in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil; the Estadio Nacional in Santiago, Chile; and the Estadio Centenario in Montevideo, Uruguay. Proponents of the bid highlight the region’s combined population of 283 million, growing economies, and extensive experience hosting major international sporting events. UAR President Felix Paez Molina stated that the bid is an opportunity to show the world the region’s “passion for the sport and its capacity to host major international events.” The regional bid faces competition from other interested nations, including Spain and Japan. The selection process will involve site visits and feasibility assessments by World Rugby. A preferred host is expected to be announced in May 2027, with a final decision from the World Rugby Council scheduled for November 2027.
