South American women's club sports competitions

Overview

In late September 2026, Chilean basketball clubs Sportiva Italiana and Colegio Los Leones won their opening matches in the Women’s Basketball League Americas in Santiago. Sportiva Italiana defeated Brazil's SESI Araraquara 66-44, while Colegio Los Leones beat Uruguay's Defensor Sporting 71-57.

By mid-October, the focus shifted to women's football as South American clubs prepared for the Copa Libertadores Femenina. Universidad de Chile traveled to Quito for their debut match against Uruguay's Nacional in Group D. Additionally, Ecuadorian club Liga Deportiva Universitaria prepared for its tournament debut following recent success in the Superliga Femenina.

On October 18, Universidad de Chile suffered a 2-1 defeat against Paraguay's Libertad in a Group D match held in Quito. Despite early possession, defensive errors allowed Libertad to take a 2-0 lead in the first half via goals from Paola Genes and María Tamay. Although Constanza Santander scored for Universidad de Chile in the 88th minute, the loss left the Chilean side with only one point. To maintain quarter-final qualification chances, Universidad de Chile must defeat Deportivo Cali and hope Libertad fails to win against Nacional de Montevideo.
