Law enforcement agencies in South Asia have successfully coordinated with Malaysian authorities to deport and arrest wanted fugitives. In Sri Lanka, Dhanushka Kaushalya, an associate of organized criminal figure ‘Kanjipani Imran’, was extradited from Malaysia following an Interpol Red Notice. Kaushalya is accused of involvement in a 2014 abduction and a fatal 2016 shooting. Two other Sri Lankan nationals were also apprehended during the operation. Similarly, Indian authorities, supported by the Overseas Fugitive Tracking and Extradition Cell, secured the deportation of three members of the Davinder Bambiha gang from Malaysia. The suspects, identified as Jaspreet Singh, Ajay Singh, and Pawandeep Singh, face charges in Punjab related to murder, extortion, and explosives. Investigations have suggested links between the gang and Pakistan’s ISI. Following their arrival at Indira Gandhi International Airport in New Delhi, the Bambiha gang fugitives face additional charges including cross-border arms smuggling, narco-trafficking, and involvement in a foiled grenade attack in Ludhiana, Punjab. Jaspreet Singh is also linked to the murder of Yadvinder Singh and a former Punjab University leader's driver. Union Home Minister Amit Shah reported that Indian agencies have facilitated the deportation of 51 hardened criminals in 2026 so far. This follows the recent return of Virender Singh Basoya, a key operative in drug trafficking, who was extradited from the United Arab Emirates.
