The BBB faction nominated former Minister Robert Tieman to serve as the new provincial deputy in South Holland. Tieman, who previously served as the Minister of Infrastructure and Water Management, was tasked with overseeing portfolios including provincial finances and nitrogen policy, succeeding Mariëtte van Leeuwen. The South Holland Provincial Council subsequently approved Tieman’s appointment. The decision sparked debate among opposition parties, such as the PVV, JA21, and Forum voor Democratie, who argued that the existing six deputies could have redistributed Van Leeuwen’s responsibilities instead of appointing a seventh. While BBB floor leader Niels Oosterom defended the move by stating the portfolios require dedicated administrative attention, critics highlighted a lack of continuity in the provincial executive. Opposition members characterized the frequent mid-term changes as a “jobs carousel,” noting that Tieman is the fifth deputy to take office mid-term, leaving only two of the original seven administrators from the 2023 coalition agreement in place. Regarding his upcoming six-month term ahead of the March 17 provincial elections, Tieman stated he does not intend to merely ‘watch the shop’ but aims to address key issues before a new coalition is formed. He emphasized the province’s economic significance, specifically its role in the aerospace sector, greenhouse horticulture, and Dutch employment.
