South Korean biotech government R&D funding

South Korean biotechnology and life science companies continue to secure significant government R&D funding through various national initiatives.

Pulse in Myers has been selected for the ‘2026 Pharmaceutical and Bio-Venture Collaborative Technology Development Project’. In collaboration with Huons, the company will receive 3 billion KRW to accelerate the development and commercialization of ‘Pearl-101’, a subcutaneous formulation for refractory solid tumors, with the goal of completing Phase 1 clinical trial IND submissions.

J&P Medi, an AI-based life science R&D platform company, has secured 6.2 billion KRW through 2030 via the ‘Global TIPS’ program. The funding will support the development of an ‘AI-based Clinical OS’ designed to automate the clinical trial lifecycle by integrating data, documentation, and regulatory information.

Under the Ministry of Science and ICT’s Bio and Medical Technology Development Program, CHA Biotech has been named a joint research institution for the ‘K-CGTAP’ project. This initiative, running from 2026 to 2030 with a total budget of approximately 13.7 billion KRW, aims to establish a Korea Cell and Gene Therapy Analysis Platform to meet global regulatory standards.

Additionally, POSTECH has been selected to lead two major projects in Gyeongsangbuk-do, totaling 36 billion KRW over five years. These projects focus on developing next-generation plant exosome technology for bio-materials and original 3D bioprinting technologies for manufacturing regenerative therapies, such as patient-customized organ treatments and AI-driven cardiac muscle therapy.
