South Korean courts have issued various prison sentences to former military commanders involved in the December 3 martial law incident. Initial rulings included 12 years for former 707th Special Mission Group commander Kim Hyun-tae, 10 years for former 1st Airborne Special Forces Brigade commander Lee Sang-hyun, and 5 years for former Defense Counterintelligence Command investigation unit head Kim Dae-woo. Additionally, Kim Tae-hyo, former First Deputy Director of the National Security Office, denied charges of insurrection and abuse of power regarding diplomatic communications used to justify the martial law declaration. Subsequent sentencing by the Seoul Central District Court targeted higher-ranking officials for organizing task forces to arrest politicians and attempting to seize election commission data. Former Defense Counterintelligence Command Commander Yeo In-hyeong received 18 years, while former Capital Defense Command Commander Lee Jin-woo received 15 years. Former Army Chief of Staff Park An-su was sentenced to 10 years for issuing unconstitutional decrees. Other sentences included 12 years for former Intelligence Command Commander Moon Sang-ho and 9 years for former Special Warfare Command Commander Kwak Jong-geun. The court noted that the defendants betrayed the political neutrality of the military. In recent developments, the court revoked bail for Lee, Park, and Kwak, ordering their immediate detention. Kwak received a relatively lighter sentence due to his cooperation with the special prosecution investigation.
