Municipalities across South Korea are hosting diverse cultural programs throughout September to celebrate Reading Month. In Wonju, libraries continue to offer specialized activities. The Saenggakjaram Children’s Library features media art exhibitions, craft workshops, and author meetings with Kang Hyo-mi. The Picture Book Library provides expanded loan limits and lectures by Chae In-seon, while Saemmaru Library hosts poet Hwang In-chan, Booker Prize nominee Bora Chung, a book flea market, and orchestral performances. Taejang Library is utilizing a ‘book garden’ theme with poet Go Chang-young, and Mirinae Library is operating an outdoor night library alongside various author lectures. In Jecheon, the Jecheon Student Center is running programs through September 30, including a concert and lecture by children’s book author Shin Yu-mi, terrarium making, and leather crafting workshops. To encourage usage, the center is doubling book loan limits and providing immediate lifting of loan suspensions for those returning overdue books. In Gangnam-gu, Yeoksam Library will host the ‘Laughing Out Loud! Picture Book Theater’ at the LH Suseo 1st Complex Small Library from September 9 to 30. This program for children aged 5 to 6 uses storytelling and sensory activities to teach social skills and hygiene. In Incheon, the Kkumdream Children's English Library in Jeomulpo-gu is focusing on English literacy through picture book recommendations, sticker rewards for English book loans, and a Sunday English animation cinema series. The library is also holding a ‘Delinquent Release Day’ to help residents resolve overdue book issues and resume services. In Gyeonggi Province, public libraries across 31 cities and counties are organizing 1,473 programs. Highlights include a lecture by author Lee Eok-bae in Anseong and a library festival in Hwaseong. In Seongnam, Sujeong Library is operating the ‘Dugeun Dugeun! Culture Playground,’ featuring 19 citizen-participation programs focused on reading, art, and environmental sustainability, such as an eco-bag donation drive.
