South Korean pharmaceutical companies are increasingly partnering with medical institutions to implement AI-driven monitoring systems and smart hospital technologies. In mid-October, Dong-A ST signed a memorandum of understanding with Pusan National University Hospital to develop smart hospital wards and an AI-based maritime medical support system. This initiative utilizes wearable ECG monitoring devices to enable real-time vital sign detection and aims to create medical support systems for low-bandwidth environments, such as deep-sea vessels. By late October, Daewoong Pharmaceutical expanded its digital healthcare footprint by supplying its ‘thynC’ AI-based smart bed monitoring system to Ajou University Hospital. The system uses wearable biosensors to monitor vital signs and detect emergencies like falls or arrhythmias. Daewoong Pharmaceutical reported that its technology As of October 2026, the thynC system has been implemented in 218 medical institutions nationwide, covering approximately 20,000 a cumulative total of 20,544 beds. At Ajou University Hospital, the system is currently active across 342 beds in seven wards, including thoracic surgery, cardiology, and emergency services. The technology automatically records data into Electronic Medical Records (EMR) at 60-second intervals to reduce manual clinician workload. Ajou University Hospital plans to expand the implementation to a maximum of 1,100 beds.
