Southern Army anniversary commemorations in Yemen

Preparations are underway in Aden for a mass rally to commemorate the 55th anniversary of the founding of the Southern Army. A military preparatory committee, chaired by Southern Transitional Council member Wadhah al-Halimi, met to coordinate organizational, technical, and media arrangements for the event.

Leadership emphasized the need to maintain the cohesion of the Southern Armed Forces and resist efforts to dismantle their structure. The upcoming September 1 anniversary serves as a significant marker of military identity for South Yemen, tracing the institution's origins back to the establishment of the Military College in Salah al-Din.

Following a period of marginalization after the 1994 war, Southern military forces have undergone a resurgence since 2015. This reorganization, supported by the Southern Transitional Council, aims to bolster territorial security and counter-terrorism capabilities.

In the southern regions, discussions regarding the legacy and reconstruction of the Southern Army continue.
