Aston Villa has completed the dual signings of Japanese goalkeeper Zion Suzuki and Italian defender Matteo Ruggeri to bolster their squad for the Champions League season. Suzuki joined from Parma for approximately 35 million euros, becoming the most expensive Japanese goalkeeper in history and the first Japanese goalkeeper to compete in the Premier League. His arrival coincided with a significant squad transition under manager Unai Emery, who has sold key players such as Ollie Watkins and Youri Tielemans as part of a planned rebuilding cycle. As the 2026/27 season progressed, Suzuki established himself as a standout performer despite early team struggles with offensive production.
