Following the July 2026 crisis committee convened by the Ministry of Equality, the national death toll of women killed by partners or ex-partners rose to 36, following recent murders in Asturias, Murcia, and Málaga. Due to the high concentration of fatalities in Andalusia, which accounts for 27.77% of Spain’s total victims this year, the Ministry of Equality scheduled its next crisis committee meeting in that region for September. Data from the Interior Ministry’s VioGén system shows a continuous increase in active gender-based violence cases. As of ~~late July, 104,666 cases were recorded, including 1,165 high-risk and 14 extreme-risk situations. By~~ early September, 106,549 active cases ~~rose to 106,549, with 157 classified as high risk and~~ were recorded, including 21 classified as extreme ~~risk. The system also identified 54,772 cases involving victims with children in their care,~~ risk and ~~1,341 victims identified~~ 1,157 as ~~minors, 21 of whom are at extreme~~ high risk. Regional concentrations of active cases remain highest in Andalusia (28,193), the Valencian Community (17,439), and Madrid (12,881). In the Canary Islands, five 24-hour crisis centers for sexual violence victims have provided 1,369 interventions since May 2025, offering psychological, legal, and social support. Statistics from these centers indicate that in approximately 39% of cases, the aggressor was a person close to the victim, with 20% being a current or former partner. In the Balearic Islands, the IBDona institute recorded 2,731 calls during the first half of 2026, with nearly 92% related to gender-based violence. The institution has increased its nocturnal presence to provide better support during summer months, noting that the most common profile of those seeking help is Spanish women aged between 31 and 40. In Menorca, local authorities have implemented reinforced night services through September 30 to manage a high volume of calls and accompaniment ~~requests related to gender-based violence.~~ requests.
