In late July, residents and health collectives in Seville’s Torreblanca district lodged a formal complaint describing a severe deterioration in primary‑care services. The complaint highlighted that staffing at the Torreblanca health centre was below half of the required level, forcing doctors and nurses to handle workloads meant for several colleagues. The shortage was especially acute in paediatrics, limiting services to urgent cases and causing long appointment waits and difficulties obtaining sick‑leave coverage.

A week later, representatives of Spain’s private residential care industry reported a parallel crisis. Private care homes were losing nurses, caregivers and aides to the public health and social‑services system. The exodus, once seen as seasonal, was now described as structural, driven by low public funding that kept contracted place prices below the true cost of personnel and other services. This wage gap made public hospitals and social services more attractive, leaving private facilities with high vacancy rates despite low overall unemployment among care professionals.
