In mid‑July 2026 Spain’s Ministry for the Ecological Transition and the Demographic Challenge opened an administrative process to cancel Holaluz’s electricity‑retailer licence after alleging about €6 million in unpaid transmission‑network fees to Endesa, Iberdrola and Naturgy. Holaluz contested the claim, provided payment evidence and described the move as a technical administrative matter. The company’s shares were suspended on the BME Growth market, and the ministry said customers could be transferred to reference retailers such as Iberdrola, Endesa, Repsol, Naturgy or TotalEnergies. On 23 July the ministry formalised the suspension procedure, giving Holaluz until the end of the month to lodge objections. On 26 July the regulator officially suspended the licence, citing alleged non‑compliance and noting Holaluz’s €44.7 million net debt for 2025, most of which is guaranteed by the state‑run Instituto de Crédito Oficial. Co‑founder and deputy CEO Carlota Pi announced that the firm would file a legal defence. By 28 July Holaluz filed its ~~defence with the ministry,~~ defence, asserting that all invoices claimed by the distributors have been fully paid, that it complies with all operational and financial requirements, and that it continues to supply electricity to roughly 250 000 customers without interruption. The company ~~retained~~ reiterated that the ~~right to pursue further~~ procedure has no legal ~~action while~~ basis, that it holds no debt to the distributors, and that its licence remains active while shares ~~remain~~ stay suspended. Holaluz signalled it will take legal action if necessary and expects a swift resolution.
