The Spanish financial and corporate sectors have demonstrated strong profitability and capital distribution. Major banks, including Santander, BBVA, CaixaBank, Sabadell, Bankinter, and Unicaja, are projected to reach a combined net profit of approximately €29.2 billion for the first nine months of the year, marking a 15% increase from the previous year. This growth is largely attributed to recovered interest margins following central bank rate hikes. Market consensus anticipates a tenth consecutive record-breaking quarter for the sector. Banco Santander is expected to lead the group with an estimated 21% profit increase to €12.544 billion, while BBVA and CaixaBank are projected to see growth of 13% and 10%, respectively. Banco Sabadell is the notable exception among the five major entities, with analysts forecasting a 3% decrease in profit to €1.35 billion, a decline primarily attributed to the sale of its British subsidiary, TSB, to Banco Santander. In tandem with these banking profits, approximately thirty companies listed on the Spanish stock market are expected to distribute over 10 billion euros in dividends by year-end. Notable contributors to this distribution include Inditex, which recently became Spain’s most valuable company by market capitalization, as well as Sabadell, Enagás, Naturgy, Viscofan, and CaixaBank.
