The multi‑agency crackdown that began in early July with the dismantling of a Peruvian‑run fraud ring and subsequent investigations into consumer scams expanded throughout the summer. By the end of July, Operation Tributo had exposed a large Social Security evasion network linked to agricultural firms in Almería and seized assets worth around €1 million. In late July 2026, police uncovered an additional organised scheme in Almería that defrauded the Treasury General of Social Security of roughly €500,000. The investigation, also part of Operation Tributo, resulted in the arrest of two suspects and the identification of two others under inquiry. Authorities seized seven properties valued at about €1 million and froze related assets, highlighting how several agricultural companies operated as a single entity to conceal debts and avoid contributions. Further inquiry traced the Almería scheme back to a February 2025 request from Almería Court No. 3, prompting raids by the Provincial Judicial Police Brigade’s Group VIII (Economic Crime) and Group XI (Money Laundering). The network, active since around 2009, linked companies through shared workers, addresses, directors and bank accounts, with family members serving as administrators, enabling one firm to close while another continued identical agricultural activities. These actions illustrate a sustained, coordinated effort by the Policía Nacional, Guardia Civil and other bodies to combat diverse fraud activities—ranging from international scams to domestic economic crimes—across multiple Spanish regions.
