Spanish police investigations into infant abductions
Overview
Spanish National Police have conducted separate investigations involving the unauthorized removal of infants.
In Andújar, Jaén, authorities arrested two women after they allegedly pushed a mother and seized a stroller containing a one-month-old baby in a central street. Following a mobilization of over twenty officers, the suspects were intercepted with the infant, who was found to be in perfect health. The suspects were released under judicial orders to maintain distance from the mother and child.
In a separate case in Cartagena, three individuals were arrested as part of an illegal adoption scheme involving a six-month-old baby. The investigation determined that biological parents handed the child to a couple from Málaga in Alicante. The receiving couple, who reported the situation to social services after noting signs of malnutrition and abuse, claimed they were told the mother suffered from mental health issues. The biological parents had reportedly filed a false police report claiming the infant had been kidnapped by hooded individuals.
