Throughout the summer of 2026, Spanish municipalities have undertaken a significant wave of football facility upgrades, focusing on modern, sustainable, and safe artificial turf. In early July, Torrelodones hosted the “Football for Peace” exhibition to promote coexistence, while Albacete completed a €215,513 project at the Paseo de la Cuba complex to install new synthetic turf and improved drainage. Almazán also launched a major €733,514 construction project at La Arboleda, featuring next-generation anti-UVA turf designed to resist heat and frost. Sustainability has become a central theme. Cambrils awarded a contract for a FIFA QUALITY PRO surface made of biodegradable, recyclable material that eliminates rubber infill to comply with upcoming EU micro-plastic regulations. Similarly, Muskiz allocated approximately €300,000 for a FIFA-certified, rubber-free turf at El Malecón Berria. In Monesterio, €14,000 from the Cohesiona Plan was used to restore safety and cushioning at the El Tejar courts. Other significant developments include the €8.5 million second phase of Getafe’s San Isidro sports centre and ongoing renovations in A Estrada, where bids are being processed for turf and lighting upgrades. Additional regional efforts include natural grass replacement in El Puerto de Santa María and synthetic updates in Vitoria-Gasteiz. These projects collectively utilize advanced technologies, such as high-resistance polyethylene filaments, to improve durability and reduce surface heat across the country. In late August, Cerdanyola continued this trend of upgrading sports infrastructure. The Les Fontetes Municipal Sports Zone is undergoing an artificial turf renovation, with a contract of approximately €378,614 awarded to Fieldturf Poligras. This project will replace the current SBR rubber system with a latest-generation LISPORT system utilizing a natural corn husk and silica sand infill to enhance playing conditions for Cerdanyola Futbol Club.
