The Spanish wine sector continues to receive significant industry recognition, particularly through the 42nd edition of the Guía Vinos Gourmets 2027 awards. Diez Siglos, a group representing 65 viticulturists within the D.O. Rueda region, was named ‘Winery of the Year’ for its commitment to quality and the expression of origin. In a further development, the Denominación de Origen (DO) Rueda received the ‘Special Prize of the Year.’ This award, determined by reader votes, recognizes the organization’s promotional strategies and its success in establishing itself as an international benchmark for high-quality white wines through diverse communication and professional training efforts. Other notable award recipients include Bodegas Murua (specifically Murua Blanco Fermentado en Barrica) and Familia Torres (Milmanda) for best aged white wine. Additional winners include José Pariente Verdejo for best young white wine, Muga for best rosé, and Montecillo Gran Reserva for best aged red wine. Raúl Pérez remains recognized as the best enologist. The awards are scheduled to be presented at the 40th Salón Gourmets in Madrid in April 2027. Complementing these honors, the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food has named Los Altares 2016, produced by Bodegas Marqués de Cáceres, as the best white wine in Spain for 2026. This Rioja-based wine is noted for its complexity, featuring notes of honey and stone fruits, and is produced from high-altitude vineyards using traditional methods including French oak aging and extended bottle aging. Climate-related production shifts persist, as extreme heat and low rainfall have previously caused early harvests and advanced maturation cycles in certain regions, though grape sanitary conditions have remained high.
