The state of Santa Catarina is engaged in several major sporting competitions during October 2026. In early October, the city of Itajaí prepared for the Santa Catarina Student Olympics (OLESC) in Lages with a delegation of 310 members. Itajaí also prepared to host the 17th Copa Santa Catarina de Tênis, an international junior tournament with upgraded status from World Tennis, expected to draw up to 450 athletes. By mid-October, participation expanded to include the Youth Games in Foz do Iguaçu, Paraná, which featured over 5,000 athletes across 20 sports. Santa Catarina participated in 19 of these modalities, including athletics, judo, swimming, and volleyball. Additionally, local municipalities like São Ludgero continued their involvement in the state phase of the OLESC, specifically in Taekwondo and men’s futsal. The OLESC in Lages has since concluded, highlighted by strong performances from São José and Brusque. São José finished 9th overall with 32 medals, including a championship title in artistic gymnastics. Individual athlete Analu Garcia earned six medals, including four golds. Brusque secured the overall championship trophy in rhythmic gymnastics, with notable gold medal wins in the five-ball ensemble and ball trio events. Individual athlete Maria Alice Hemmer contributed to these results by winning the hoop and clubs events.
