Square Enix has confirmed that Final Fantasy Resonance is scheduled for release on October 22, 2026, with the Steam version following on October 23, 2026. Developed in collaboration with Lancarse and FuRyu, the title marks the first time the mainline series will utilize the HD-2D art style, which blends pixel art with three-dimensional environments and modern lighting. The game is a reimagining of the first narrative arc, ‘Lapis’, from the mobile title Final Fantasy Brave Exvius. Moving away from the original gacha-based mobile format, Resonance is a premium RPG featuring a curated roster of 26 hero characters known as ‘Visions’. These companions are based on iconic characters such as Cloud, Terra, and Squall. While the original mobile game utilized the Active Time Battle (ATB) system, this new iteration shifts to a tactical, turn-based combat system featuring mechanics such as the ‘Stagger bar’ and ‘Resonance attacks’. The narrative follows Knight Commander Rain and his companion Laswell as they investigate irregularities in the Earth Shrine and travel through the Kingdom of Grandshelt, specifically focusing on the Zoldaad Empire and the city of Mysidia. Gameplay elements include exploring airships and crystals, alongside side content such as the Colosseum and encounters with legendary figures like Gilgamesh. Previously announced details include a massive soundtrack of 120 tracks, including 33 new compositions by Noriyasu ~~Agematsu, and a narrative centered on the Zoldaad Empire and the city of Mysidia.~~ Agematsu.
