Square Enix has confirmed that Final Fantasy Resonance is scheduled for release on October 22, 2026, for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series, Nintendo Switch, Nintendo Switch 2, and PC, with the Steam version following on October 23, 2026. Developed in collaboration with Lancarse and FuRyu, the title marks the first time the mainline series will utilize the HD-2D art style, which blends pixel art with three-dimensional environments and modern lighting. The game is a premium RPG reimagining of the ‘Lapis’ narrative arc from the mobile title Final Fantasy Brave Exvius. Moving away from the original gacha format, Resonance features a roster of 26 ‘Visions’—summonable spirits based on iconic characters. A recent trailer showcased Terra Branford from Final Fantasy VI as a Vision, highlighting her elemental magic and wide-area attacks. Other featured Visions include the Warrior of Light, Noctis, and Squall, while Sephiroth has been identified as a boss character. Combat has shifted to a tactical, turn-based system featuring ‘Stagger bars’ and ‘Resonance attacks’. Gameplay elements include classic series features such as airships, crystals, espers, and moogles. Players can explore optional areas like the Colosseum and the Chamber of Arms, and encounter characters such as Gilgamesh and the Ultima Weapon.
