The Srebrenica Memorial Center has recently focused on commemorative efforts and institutional challenges. The center opened a new exhibition, ‘ONA, SREBRENICA – Women Voices in Memory’, which utilizes personal stories and photographs to highlight the experiences of women seeking truth regarding the genocide and their roles in identifying remains. Concurrently, the institution is facing escalating political pressure. Director Emir Suljagić has alleged that political and security structures in Republika Srpska, with support from certain Sarajevo elements, are attempting to discredit and seize control of the center. This follows an investigation by the District Public Prosecutor's Office in Bijeljina, which summoned 28 employees for questioning over alleged tax evasion, an accusation Suljagić disputes by noting the center’s positive audit history. Tensions have intensified following warnings from Suljagić regarding an imminent raid on the institution by special police forces, transporters, and media crews. He claims the action is a political attempt to discredit the center and reduce it to a ‘mere local cemetery’. While the District Public Prosecutor's Office in Bijeljina stated these actions are part of a verification of information regarding alleged tax evasion, they clarified that a formal investigation has not yet been opened. In response, Denis Zvizdić, Deputy Chairman of the House of Representatives of BiH, has demanded urgent clarification, stating that state institutions must not be used for ‘political demonstrations of force’. Additionally, political analyst Jasmin Mujanović has called on EUFOR to provide a protective cordon around the Memorial Center to prevent what he describes as an ‘illegal police raid’.
