Authorities in Sri Lanka have launched investigations into organized criminal networks following a violent incident involving Chinese nationals. The altercation, which resulted in the abduction and murder of a Chinese citizen named Hao Song, Song led investigators to suspect the involvement of a transnational cyber-fraud network operating within the country. Parliamentary scrutiny has highlighted the need for updated legislative frameworks and improved inter-agency cooperation, particularly as criminal groups utilize cryptocurrency to move funds across jurisdictions. Law enforcement is currently blocking websites linked to illegal gambling and is coordinating with embassies to arrange the deportation of foreign nationals involved in cybercrime. To prevent criminal groups from utilizing using local infrastructure as operational bases, police have urged continue to urge property owners and hotel operators to strictly verify the identities of foreign tenants.
