St. Vincent and the Grenadines cruise port development
Overview
The Government of St. Vincent and the Grenadines announced plans to partner with Global Ports Holding (GPH) to address infrastructure constraints and manage a projected 43% increase in cruise tourism passengers for the 2026–2027 season.
On October 26, the government signed a 30-year agreement with GPH to modernize and expand the nation’s cruise tourism infrastructure. While the government retains 100% ownership of all physical port facilities, GPH has been granted operational, management, and development rights. The deal mandates a minimum investment of US$80 million from GPH across two phases: an initial US$20 million to expand existing berths in Kingstown, and a subsequent US$60 million for a new pier west of Kingstown and a new pier at Clifton, Union Island.
To promote local economic participation, the contract includes a Special Purpose Vehicle (SPV) allowing Vincentian citizens and local entities to acquire up to a 30% equity stake in local GPH operations, with priority given to local retail investors.
