Stal Rzeszów and Polonia Piła speedway rivalry

The competitive relationship between the speedway teams Dakar Development Stal Rzeszów and Polonia Piła has transitioned from sporting disappointment to physical confrontation.

In late August, Stal Rzeszów captain Oskar Fajfer apologized for a poor performance during a match against Polonia Piła that determined 5th and 6th place rankings. Fajfer, who scored only 5 points, cited difficult track conditions and ruts as reasons for the 42:48 defeat.

By mid-September, tensions during a Metalkas 2. Ekstraliga match between the two clubs escalated into violence. Following racing incidents involving Matias Nielsen that caused riders Josh Pickering and Maksym Borowiak to fall, Nielsen engaged in a physical altercation with a Rzeszów mechanic. Nielsen received a yellow card for his behavior, and the mechanic required medical attention.

On September 18, Stal Rzeszów secured their place in the league by defeating Polonia Piła with a score of 50:39. Despite this victory, standout performer Mateusz Szczepaniak announced he will leave the club following the conclusion of the season, stating that there is “no place for him in the 2027 squad.”
