Standard Chartered is advancing its integration of digital assets and tokenization into institutional financial services. A report by the bank and consultancy Zanders indicates that corporate treasury departments are increasingly viewing tokenization as a strategic tool for liquidity management, with the tokenized money market fund sector reaching approximately $13 billion. The report suggests that tokenized deposits, regulated stablecoins, and tokenized securities could enable continuous cash movement and near real-time settlements, potentially replacing traditional banking cycles. Notable contributors to this sector include BlackRock’s BUIDL fund and Franklin Templeton’s OnChain US Government Money Fund. In Singapore, the bank is expanding its digital asset custody services to integrate cryptoassets, stablecoins, and tokenized real-world assets into a regulated framework for institutional and accredited corporate clients. This follows the acquisition of Zodia Custody’s regulated business and a partnership with Anchorage Digital Singapore, which adds institutional USD accounts and SWIFT transfer capabilities. These services operate under the oversight of the Monetary Authority of Singapore (MAS). In the United Arab Emirates, the bank has expanded its digital asset footprint through its Dubai International Financial Centre (DIFC) branch, regulated by the Dubai Financial Services Authority (DFSA). The bank has launched institutional custody for Ripple USD (RLUSD) on the XRP Ledger. In collaboration with Ripple Ledger and LMAX Group, it is developing a “collateral mirroring” model, allowing institutions to use RLUSD held in custody as trading collateral on LMAX platforms without direct token transfers. Furthermore, the bank has launched a cryptocurrency trading solution for affluent and professional investors in the UAE. Approved investors, approved by the Virtual Assets Regulatory Authority (VARA), this service, developed with Zodia Markets, enables direct trading (VARA). Standard Chartered has recently moved to formalize its digital asset infrastructure by signing definitive agreements to acquire 100% of Bitcoin (BTC) and Ether (ETH) through existing bank accounts using a closed-loop Zodia Custody UK Limited. This acquisition will integrate Zodia’s regulated custody operations across Singapore, Hong Kong, Australia, the UAE, and settlement model. Meanwhile, Luxembourg into the bank’s research division has adjusted its long-term stablecoin market forecast, shifting its $2 trillion projection from 2028 to 2030 due Securities Services division. Concurrently, Zodia’s software and professional services assets will transition to current market cycles. Zodia Solutions, an independent entity operating under SC Ventures.
