Polish indie studio Seed Sparkle Lab announced that its life‑simulation title Starsand Island will exit Early Access with a full 1.0 release on 18 August 2026. The launch will be digital on Nintendo Switch 2, PC, Xbox Series X|S and PlayStation 5, with a physical Switch 2 edition slated for 12 November 2026. The update adds online multiplayer for up to four players, expanded relationship quests for nineteen NPCs, new dating activities for fourteen romanceable characters, and a seasonal Autumn Pumpkin Carnival featuring exclusive story content. Prior to launch, the game had earned an 88% positive rating on Steam. However, following the official 1.0 release, player reception has shifted to ‘mixed’ as the community expresses disappointment. Users have reported bugs and a multiplayer system where progression is only awarded to the host. Players have also criticized the requirement to complete single-player content before joining others in multiplayer mode. Beyond technical issues, the studio faces several controversies, including allegations regarding the undisclosed use of generative AI, potential backing from Tencent, and unfulfilled rewards for Kickstarter supporters. The launch has been further complicated by the release of a $20 cosmetic DLC immediately following the full version release. Despite this backlash, the game received some recognition, such as being named to the ‘Silver Hall of Fame’ in Weekly Famitsu.
